Synopsis
The term Patarenes wasused of two groups. The first in the
1050's Milan was a extreme reforming movement that demanded clerical celibacy
and an end of the practice of simony. Later in the 1170's it was used as a
general term to describe various heresies including
the Cathari of Italy (in canon 27 of the 3rd Lateran Council), the Bogomils of Bosnia and Dalmatia.
